Children blamed for grass fires

CHILDREN playing with matches are being blamed for two grass fires which broke out at Warrington yesterday.
Fire crews were called to Radley Common around 6pm and Sankey Valley Park at 7.30pm after members of the public raised the alarm.
They were able to extinguish the fires using backpack extinguishers before the flames spread over a wide area.
A spokesman said: “We always carry out a thorough investigation and there was no evidence that these fires could have started accidentally.
“We have had quite a long dry spell so the grass will burn easily and there were reports of children running away from the area.
“There was no significant damage – they were just nuisance fires really.”
