A NEW £130,000 play area in a Warrington Park – funded by the efforts of local people – is to be officially opened on March 27.
Residents and guests will gather at the park in the Dorchester Road area of Great Sankey, for the ceremony to be performed by The Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Brian Axcell and his wife Irina.
Residents raised the money in about 18 months to transform the park, once plagued by vandalism and nuisance youths taking drugs and drinking.
The area known as the Boat Park – because it contained a play boat – has been improved thanks to the work of Dorchester Residents Association.
Work carried out on the site includes new designs and equipment, old damaged play equipment removed, untidy bushes dug up and damaged fences removed.
A variety of fund raising events were held and grants obtained to fund the project.
The improved park has two play areas – one for juniors and one for toddlers.
