Motorway closed after fatality

POLICE have warned motorists to try and avoid the M6 early this morning following a fatal accident near Warrington.
A motorist believed to have been changing a wheel on his car, parked on the hard shoulder on the northbound carriageway near Junction 20 at Lymm, was struck by a passing vehicle and was killed.
The motorway has been closed between junctions 20 and 19 although it was hoped it would be re-opened by 9am.
Police said there was severe congestion on the motorway and on nearby roads.
They are seeking witnesses of the incident which led to the man’s death and anyone who can help should call them on 0845 458 0000 or on the confidential Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111.
