A WARRINGTON businessman is to be the new Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire.
The Queen has appointed David Briggs, managing director of Dawsons Music Ltd, making him Her Majesty’s representative in the county. 
He takes over the post on Sunday, March 7, following the retirement of Sir William Bromley Davenport who has held the position for almost 20 years.
Mr Briggs, 63, (pictured) said: “I am hugely honoured and very surprised to be appointed Lord-Lieutenant. Sir William has done a magnificent job over the last 20 years and he is a very hard act to follow.
“I welcome the opportunity given to me as Her Majesty’s representative to acknowledge and celebrate all that is good and distinctive about Cheshire – be it the immense contribution made through volunteering or the success of Cheshire businesses both large and small.”
Mr Briggs was High Sheriff of Cheshire in 2006/7 and has for many years been engaged in a number of charitable activities.
He has been involved with St John Ambulance for 35 years and was chairman of Warrington Youth Club from 1981 to 2006 and remains a director. He has been awarded the MBE and has an honorary MA by University of Chester.
