Musical friends who have The Gift

TWO Warrington friends are fast making a name for themselves on the North West music scene as part of the rock band “The Gift”.
Mark Hodgson plays lead guitar and Neil Myatt drums in the band, which regularly plays The Academy in Manchester and has been compared to legendary “grunge” group Nirvana.
The pair, who both live at LYmm, first formed a band at Lymm High School where they met in 1997, aged 17 and have been involved in bands together ever since.
The group, which also includes singer Niall Markey and rhythm guitarist Richie Meadowcroft has a growing fan base of more than 10,000 internationally and has had recent interest from a recording label.
Mark, 29, said: “We have spent most of 2009 in the studio writing and recording our music. We always put on a great show and have a really good following. There aren’t many places to gig in Lymm but we’d love to have more fans from our home town.
“Me and Niall spend most of our time writing the songs and constantly coming up with new ideas. We have just finished recording our debut EP which has five really strong tracks on it.”
The Gift has also done a succession of charity gigs, the most recent for Ugandaid, where they often throw in a few rock covers.
Neil, also 29, said: “We will always do charity gigs as it’s a great way to raise money by people coming to watch live music and enjoying themselves knowing that they are helping others. We always have a good time and it gives our fans a chance to watch us do some classic rock covers like AC/DC and Queen.”
The band’s next gig is at Night & Day in Manchester on February 25 and fans can keep up to date with their news at http://www.myspace.com/thegiftmanchester and their page on Facebook.
