FIRE crews were involved in a two-hour operation to tackle a blaze at the Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station, near Warrington.
Six fire appliances from Warrington and Widnes were involved in the operation which was completed shortly before midnight.
The blaze involved a by-product of the plant operation and was in a sub-basement area. Fire crews in breathing apparatus had to search out the source of the fire and then extinguish it with a hosereel jet.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “It was only quite a small fire – the difficulty was in finding it as it was in an obscure area.”
