Cancer support group seeks members

A WARRINGTON support group for women with concerns about breast cancer is inviting new members to a range of activities in the coming year.
Warrington Breast Cancer Care Support Group wants women who have breast cancer, have had the disease in the past or are worried about family history or general concerns, to join them.
The group was formed 20 years ago by a group of women who had faced breast cancer and wanted to offer help and support others who were going through a similar experience.
It runs a drop-in-centre centre between 9.30am and 12pm every Wednesday, at the breast screening clinic in the Kendrick Wing at Warrington Hospital. Visitors can enjoy a hot drink and a chat and pick up valuable information.
The group also runs a support meeting on the first Thursday of each month at 7.30pm in Warrington Hospital post graduate centre, where social evenings and events are also held.
The calendar for next year is:
February 4: Bring and Buy Sale: Recycle unwanted Christmas presents (to be held in the Conference Room, Burtonwood Wing on the first floor).
March 4: Speaker, Rev Nicky Lees, Liverpool Airport Chaplain (also in the conference room).
April 1: Cheese and sparkling wine evening.
May 6: Lingerie designs demonstration.
June 3: Speaker: Mr Michael Mahoney, hypnotherapist from Guardian Street Medical Centre
July 1: Strawberries and cream evening.
Group member Ann Bebbington said: “The aim of the group is to let you know that you’re not alone. It gives a chance to meet other ladies who have shared similar experiences in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. If you want to come along to the drop-in centre or the support meeting you are more than welcome to bring a female friend or relative as well.
“Breast cancer affects a lot of women but there is a lot of mutual support available.”
Anyone who wants more information about the group can ring Ann on 01925 480436.
