FIRE service experts are today still investigating the cause of a major blaze at industrial premises at Warrington in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A total of 10 fire appliances, including two from Warrington, one from Birchwood and the hydraulic platform based at Stockton Heath were mobilised during the operation.
The blaze involved a large warehouse building, some 10m by 25m in size, in Slutchers Lane. At first, one jet was used to fight the flames but further appliances were brought in to help with firefighting and water supplies. Nearly 50 firefighters were involved.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “The unit was of brick and corrugated sealed sheet construction, single storey with mezzanine levels. Crews did an excellent job in preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring premises which were just a few feet away.”
All services to the property were isolated and officers from environmental health and the Environment Agency were informed, as well as Rail Track due to the proximity of the railway line.
Once crews brought the fire under control they began to reduce the number of appliances in attendance but crews remained on site throughout the night and were still damping down at 9.30am today.
