Neighbours oppose bungalow plan

PLANS to build eight rented bungalows for the elderly come before Warrington planning bosses this week – with opposition coming from nearby residents.
The application – submitted by the borough council itself – involves land bounded by Atlee, Churchill and Eden avenues at Mee Brow, Culcheth.
The properties are to be developed by Arena Housing Association but retained in council ownership.
Officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
But there has been local opposition from people who point out it will involve the loss of a grassed area used for informal play on a residential estate.
Officers say there would normally be a policy objection because of the current oversupply of housing land in Warrington and because of the loss of urban green space.
But in this case, there is a surplus of recreational land in the area.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council has not objected, provided the properties are offered first to local residents.
Objectors say the land has been used as a secure play area for more than 60 years.
Similar proposals for three bungalows in Charnock Road, Culcheth are also to be considered.
