POLICE have apologised after issuing a photograph of the wrong man in connection with the theft of a Poppy Appeal charity box from a shop at Warrington.
The CCTV image was published by this website on December 8 with a report on the theft from a Co-op Late Shop in Warrington Road, Penketh on November 27.
But the man – pictured left – has now contact police to protest his innocence.
A police spokeswoman said: “He is in no way responsible for any criminal act in relation to this incident and has been fully eliminated from enquiries. Cheshire Police would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Enquiries into the theft are continuing, however.
Anyone who can help police is asked to contact PCSO Richard Unsworth at Great Sankey Police Station on 0845 458 0000.
