PRIESTLEY College Women’s Rugby Team is celebrating after winning its first competitive fixture.
Supporters turned out to see the recently-formed side beat Lakes College, from Cumbria, 40-0 after ten tries.
The Priestley women’s squad has been bolstered this year by players who are already in competitive action for the successful Warrington Girls u16s side.
These include Captain and half-back Emily Rudge, age 17, has already toured Australia with the full England open age team.
Nige Johnson, the team’s coach, who is also the England Assistant Coach, said: “It was excellent to see the students get this win under their belt. We now have a great pathway for development of the female game at Priestley, working in partnership with Warrington Ladies ARLFC.”
Priestley’s Head of Sport, Nigel Howells, said: “The second year students in the squad spent a lot of time last year training and so it was very important for them to get on the field of play, they certainly did themselves proud and it was a great performance.”
