CHESHIRE’S most prestigious business accolade has officially been launched with nominations invited for this year’s High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise.
Now in its fourth year, the award offers thousands of pounds worth of prizes, with the winner and two runners-up to be announced at a ceremony on March 24 next year at the University of Chester.
Sponsors include Cheshire and Warrington Economic Alliance, Barclays Bank, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council, Halton Borough Council, North West Regional Development Agency, University of Chester, Business Link North West and Bank of America.
High Sheriff William Fergusson said: “I am delighted to endorse this award which showcases the highest standards of enterprise in our region. In the past, we have seen some outstanding businesses take home the award and I’m sure 2009 will be no exception.”
The winning company will receive a free place for one of its managers on the award-winning MBA programme at the University of Chester (worth £8,000). Cash prizes of £4,000 and £2,000 will be awarded to businesses in second and third place respectively.
The Award, which recognises successful businesses throughout, highlights outstanding achievement by local private sector companies with a turnover of at least £500,000 and between five and 250 employees.

The closing date for entries is December 16. All entries should be sent to Catherine Menzies, Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, University of Chester, Parkgate Road, Chester CH1 4BJ, clearly marked “High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise 2009”.
Short-listing of the finalists and a series of visits to those businesses will be undertaken by the judges in January.
