School wins festive art competition

WOOLSTON CE Primary School, Warrington, has been named as the overall winner of the “Kids Make Christmas” competition staged by the town’s Golden Square Shopping Centre.
Youngsters were encouraged to develop their drawing skills and help as mini-designers for the centre and a selection of their creations are being used as part of Golden Squares festive marketing campaign.
The competition, which has been running since September, saw primary schools from across Warrington entering fantastic drawings on a selection of Christmas themes in the hope of winning prizes.
Woolston CE Primary was voted the overall winning school by a team of judges due to the creativity and talent of its entries.
The school won a £1,000 prize.
Individual winners at Woolston were twins Isabelle and Abigail Hampson age 5, Emily Rose Izzard, 9, Jennifer Taylor, 9, Jack Stevens, 7, Cayla Barlow, 8, and Naomi Finnen age 9.
There were also a number of winners from St Alban’s RC Primary including Anna Loxley, 5, Katie Wing, 9, and Charley Royle, 6. A full list of winners will be announced on the website www.goldensquareshopping.co.uk
Woolston headteacher Paula Wells commented: “We are both amazed and delighted to have won the £1000 prize. This is a significant amount of money which we’ll be using to improve our art facilities to help strengthen and support the creative talent within the school.
“All the pupils worked incredibly hard on their designs so we are very proud that their flair for art has been acknowledged with these fantastic prizes.”
