Warning for trick for treaters

POLICE are taking action to ensure trick or treaters in Warrington are on their “best behaviour” during the Halloween period.
Special leaflets are being delivered by Police Community Support Officers to thousands of households or are available at Police Stations. They let callers know whether residents welcome trick or treaters – or not.
The A5 leaflets can be displayed in windows and police are urging those celebrating Halloween to respect the wishes of residents.
One side says “Yes, we welcome Halloween callers with children in costume” and the other says “No callers please.” Residents can show the side which relates to them.
The leaflets can also be downloaded in pdf format from the website at www.cheshire.police.uk
Chief Inspector Jon Ward said: “We want to make sure that everyone in Warrington is on their best behaviour over the Halloween period and ensure that what should be an enjoyable event for everyone does not turn into a nightmare for some.
“We are urging people to be sensible over the Halloween period and to be respectful towards the local community.”
He said the leaflets were produced so that people have “no doubt” whether they should knock on a door or not.
He said: “Children will be out and about trick or treating – some will be accompanied by parents and some will be out on their own.
“Many local residents will welcome them calling at their door but we are aware that there are a lot of people who are not comfortable with this approach and who feel intimidated by it.”
Last year police received more than 790 emergency calls from across the county during October 30 and 31. Most of these related to youth nuisance, anti-social behaviour and criminal damage by teenagers.
The fire service attended more than 180 bonfire or firework related incidents across the county between October 16 and November 6.
