Global handwashing day!

TODAY is Global Handwashing Day – and next Monday marks the start of International Infection Prevention Week.
Warrington Hospital is using both events to put the focus on hand hygiene to get over the message that hand washing with soap and water helps stop the spread of infections.
The message is particularly important at the moment because of the risk of pandemic swine flu.
Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust are urging hospital visitors to wash their hands before entering the hospital
Hygienic handrub facilities are being provided at entrances to hospital buildings.
Kath Holbourn, Trust director of nursing, said: “Infection control is very much about a team effort and everyone working together. We have a dedicated Infection Control Team who work extremely hard – but it is not just their business – it’s everyone’s business.”
Hand hygiene is the single most important thing people can do to stop the spread of infection, she added.
It was important to get this message to everyone – and to learn to challenge people who did not clean their hands.
