WARRINGTON Wolves’ talisman Lee Briers has been given the all clear following a scan on a facial injury after missing the second half of the 36-16 defeat at Wigan Warriors last Friday.
Briers, who hopes to be playing against Wakefield on Friday night, suffered nerve damage which has left him with some numbness. He was also shocked to discover he had an old break on the other side of his face which he knew nothing about!
It has been a “dream come true” reaching Wembley for Briers, who has tasted defeat in three semi-finals with the Wolves. He also missed out on a Wembley final place with his home town club St Helens after helping them win a cup-semi-final – which resulted in his move to Warrington after being signed by Alex Murphy.
Meanwhile Head of Coaching Tony Smith has broken off from his Wembley preparations to spend two days in Belgrade for the European Under-16 Championships, which begin in the Serbian capital, tomorrow, Tuesday.
England Coach Smith will undertake coaching seminars and on-field practical work with the six nations involved and attend official functions to help raise the profile of the game in Serbia.Smith undertook a similar visit to Prague last year.
England will play France and Wales in the main competition with Scotland and Serbia meeting a Euro Celts team assembled to take the place of Russia, who have withdrawn. Jimmy Lowes, has taken temporary charge of the club’s preparations for Friday’s home Super League game against Wakefield.
