Women help keep summer game alive!

RAIN washed out the complete Saturday cricket programme in the Warrington area and only a handful of matches were played across the whole of Cheshire.
But Grappenhall 3rd XI – who play on Sunday – managed to play on a wet and windy weekend at Broad Lane and enjoyed a massive 125-run victory over Alderley Edge.
On a slow, damp wicket the visitors elected to bowl first.
Two wickets went for only six runs and it looked as if they had made the right decision. But Neil Muttock and Chris France changed that and began to pick up runs freely.
France fell for 56 but Muttock went on to reach 102 not out and with Bradley Angel contributing a well-worked 35, Grappenhall managed to post a formidable 227-6 from 45 overs.
The Grappenhall attack soon had the visitors in trouble with two wickets down and not a run on the board.
Alderley Edge rallied but James Edgerton picked up two vital wickets and in the end the visitors were dismissed for 102.
Women’s cricket also kept the summer game alive in the Warrington area with Appleton winning their way through to a final in the Twenty20 game.
They will play in the Plate Final at Warrington Cricket Club on Sunday, August 31 when they will take on either Oakmere or Romiley.
Appleton have an exciting four run victory over Hyde to reach the final.
Batting first, they hit 98-8 in their 20 overs, Emma Barlow and Katie Rudd both hitting 22 retired.
Then Natalie Lyons, 4-13 and Kim Challis, 2-6 bowled well to restrict Hyde to 94-8.
But in the Cheshire Women’s League division one, Appleton’s game at Poynton was washed out, leaving them six points adrift at the bottom of the table and facing the threat of relegation.
