A NEW Polish group in Warrington is going from strength to strength thanks to Golden Gates Housing Trust.
Over the last year the housing trust has been working closely with the Polish community in Bewsey and Dallam to establish a support group and help support residents to quickly integrate into the already settled communities within the local area.
Meeting once a week at Bewsey Community Centre, the group, “Polonia Bewsey and Dallam”, now boasts a membership of over 60 members, all coming together with the aim of improving cohesion and integration within the local community.
The group have already set a date to hold their fist AGM and agree their constitution. They are also hoping to establish a community bank account to start fundraising to support their ambitious plans.
The group are committed to helping develop friendships and understandings between the different communities in Warrington. Over the next year the group are planning events and activities such as exercise classes, cookery session where the community can sample Polish food, and developing language classes to improve their standards of English. They will also be looking to improve the health and wellbeing for the whole area, linking into the wider ‘Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam’ project.
Mira and Michal Kasprzyk, who helped establish the group, recently produced an Easter Hamper and presented to GGHT on behalf of the group to thank them for their support. They said: “It has been fantastic to work with GGHT’s Regeneration Team to set up our group. We are really excited about our plans for the future and would welcome all members of the community to join us. The group isn’t just for Polish people, we welcome everyone to join us, form friendships with us and help us understand one another and live in harmony together.”
Polonia Bewsey and Dallam have a very active Facebook Group and can be found through a simple search. The AGM takes place on Monday 13 April from 6-7pm at Bewsey Community Centre. Anyone interested in attending can simply turn up on the evening to find out more.
