THE Warrington Cycle Network is set to benefit from the addition of a new route in the Westbrook and Dallam area.
Construction work will shortly begin on the Westbrook to Dallam Greenway scheme which will provide an off road pedestrian/cyclist shared use route through public open space between Westbrook Crescent/Cromwell Avenue and Sankey Valley Park.
Funded by the council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund, the scheme will form part of a strategic east to west pedestrian and cycle route between Birchwood and Great Sankey which together with a package of minor improvements will complement and improve the overall quality of the route.
Construction will begin next Monday (March 16) and the programme will last about 20 weeks.
During this time access to the open space will be managed and maintained for members of the public, although the construction areas will be closed off for safety.
Cllr Linda Dirir, (pictured) executive board member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “This will be a great asset for the local community and there are many benefits to schemes such as this. The new route will link the Westbrook and Dallam areas to employment and training opportunities and will also enhance this local asset and make it more accessible for all users which is great news for our residents.”
