AUSTRALIAN half-back Josh Drinkwater is one of five players departing Warrington Wolves at the end of the season.

Ahead of the final home game of the regular season on Friday, the club has released details of those leaving, headed by Drinkwater, who is out of contract.

He said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my two seasons at the club and have met some of the best people in the game, from the owner Simon Moran through to the playing group and staff. I wish the club nothing but success in the years ahead and it’s been a pleasure playing for the Wire.”

Young back-rower Matty Nicholson, as has already been confirmed, is on his way to Canberra Raiders, and Oldham have recently announced the signing of Wolves prop Gil Dudson for 2025, although the Wales international has been on loan at Salford since earlier this season.

Any hopes of Warrington making John Bateman’s loan deal from Wests Tigers permanent appear to have been diminished by the club confirm he will return to Australia at the end of the season.

Winger Matty Russell completes the quintet, and a special presentation will be made following the game against London Broncos.

The statement added: “We would like to thank all of our departing players for their time with the Wire and we wish them all the best in their next chapters.”

The Wolves could still finish second and secure a home semi-final in the play-offs if they beat London, and Hull KR go down to defeat against Leeds.
