Appeal after suspicious fire

POLICE and fire services at Warrington today issued an appeal for help from the public following a suspicious fire in the town.
The blaze was at 10.20pm on Monday (October 27) and was near an address on Orford Lane.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze which caused minor smoke damage to the wall of the building and entrance. There were no injuries.
A joint investigation has now begun between fire and police to establish the cause of the fire, which police believe was suspicious.
DC Richard Kennedy said: “While the fire was controlled and extinguished effectively, we would very much like to establish the cause.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously.
“There was no major damage from the fire however we would like to speak to anyone with information on what could have potentially been a much more serious incident.”
Station manager at Warrington Fire Station Paul Jackson, said: “Fire is so unpredictable and can quickly spread and lead to devastating consequences.
“It appears this fire may have been started deliberately and I would appeal to anyone that may have information to contact police as the result could have been much worse.”
Anyone with information or who was in the area at the time and may have seen something suspicious, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 1005 of 27/10/14 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
