Thugs attack horses at night

HEARTLESS thugs entered a field at Warrington during the night and attacked two horses – hacking off their manes and tails.
The wanton act of cruel vandalism has distressed the horses’ owners, Caroline Hesketh and her daughter, Holly, aged eight who found the disfigured animals when they arrived early in the morning.
Police are investigating the incident in a field next to Foxcovert Cemetery in Red Lane, Appleton.
Caroline said: “I can’t imagine what sort of person would do something like this. We haven’t any enemies as far as I know so it just looks like a case of mindless, cruel vandalism.
“The worrying thing is that they might come back. The horses’ manes and tails will grow back, but it will take a long time.”
The two horses, Billy, aged 21 and Holly, aged eight – coincidentally the same name and age as her owner! – have been kept in the field for nearly three years without any previous incident.
Caroline said: “Everybody in the area knows them and everyone is upset at what has happened. I hope everyone will keep an eye on them now, in case the attackers come back.
“I’m just hoping that the more people hear about this, the more likely the culprits will get caught.”
