National Road Victim month

ROAD safety awareness is high on the agenda of Cheshire Police & Crime Commissioner John Dwyer in August as part of National Road Victim month.
In the year up June 2014, there were 470 road traffic collisions across Cheshire which resulted in a fatality or serious injury.
Dwyer said: “Most of you will be affected by the road networks on a daily basis either as a driver, passenger, cyclist, motorcyclist or pedestrian. It’s important that we all take road safety seriously. The effect a road traffic collision can have ripples further than people initially think.
“The number of deaths on our roads has decreased by 29% from the previous year, but the 24 deaths we have had are still too many.
“When we take to the roads, it’s important that we all remember the rules and are considerate to other users and pedestrians. If you need a quick reminder of some of the rules, the highway code can be found on the Government’s website, and the Constabulary provide general driving information and advice.”
Whenever there are road traffic collisions which result in a fatality or serious injury, there is a support network put into place ensuring relatives get the support they need to help them come to terms with and move on from what’s happened. This support network can include the Constabulary’s Family Liaison Officers and charities such as Brake (www.brake.org.uk) or Aftermath Support (www.aftermathsupport.org.uk).
