MP in campaign to ban old tyres on buses

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones has backed a Bill in the House of Commons to introduce an age limit for tyres used on buses and coaches.
The Bill, which was introduced by fellow MP Steve Rotheram, would make it an offence to operate buses and coaches with tyres that are 10 or more years old.
It would also introduce a requirement for such vehicles to undergo a yearly test during which the age of the tyres would be checked and recorded.
Ms Jones (pictured) said: “Last year one of my constituents tragically lost their life in a road accident which occurred when a coach tyre, nearly two decades old, blew out. This tragedy might have been prevented
had it been illegal for bus and coach companies to use aged tyres, which is why I’m backing this Bill.”
The Bill will be debated in the House of Commons again in November.
