Travellers move – but not very far

0

LIFE returned to normal on Culcheth’s village green after police and council officers persuade a party of travellers to move on after spending one night there.
They left little litter, and this was swiftly removed by council workmen and local residents.
But they did leave a bitter taste in the mouth as a number of local residents reported incidents of intimidation, threats and damage to vehicles.
The travellers did not go far.
It was believed they were heading for Silver Lane, Risley, but in fact the majority parked up in a field off Warrington Road, near the Taylor Business Park.
Police kept a close eye on the situation but there were no reports of trouble.
But local residents were worried that it might prove more difficult to move the travellers from privately owned land than from the village green.
It is understood another group of travellers have camped near Glazebury and there have also been reports of a group at Woolston.
