THERE was a huge turn-out for a private viewing of a special art exhibition in Warrington.
Children from 20 schools across the borough attended with their families to view their artwork on display at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
The exhibition “Our Past Our Present Our Future” represented the youngsters’ thoughts about peace, hope, friendship and love and was linked this year’s commemorative event which marked the 20th anniversary of the IRA bombing of Warrington.
Artists Andy and Sharon Shaw worked with the children during sessions in school last year to help them create their masterpieces.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the borough council, presented each school with a certificate for taking part and spoke to the group about the exhibition and its important role in marking the 20th anniversary.
He said: “We had nearly 200 guests which was amazing and it was great to
meet so many of the children who had taken part in this exhibition.
“It is heartening to see the children’s thoughts and feelings represented in a visual way and Andy and Sharon have done a fantastic job in supporting this. The exhibition is the forerunner to a sculpture that Andy is currently crafting and will be presented to the town later this year.
“Just in the same way as the River of Life was created by schoolchildren in the aftermath of the tragedy in March 1993, this exhibition represents artistic legacies 20 years on. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to come along as the art work really is spectacular.”
The exhibition consists of 20 paintings which have been printed onto foamex panels and is on display in the gallery until June 21.
