Neighbours oppose house-in-garden plan

WARRINGTON planning chiefs are to visit the site of a proposed new house after hearing of objections from 13 nearby residents and two local councillors.
The proposed dwelling is in the rear garden of an existing house in Booths Lane, Lymm and would be accessed by a 50m driveway along the side of the existing property, requiring the demolition of an existing garage.
Officers recommended approval when the scheme was considered by the borough council’s planning committee – but councillors deferred a decision to enable them to see the site for themselves
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt objected to the scheme on the grounds it would involve over-development of the site and would also have a detrimental impact on the amenity of residents of adjacent Highfield Drive.
Cllr Ian Marks also believed the scheme would represent over-development and would be incompatible with bungalows in Highfield Drive. He also questioned whether the access arrangements would be acceptable to emergency services.
Neighbours claimed the proposed house would be out of character with the area, oversized, overshadow properties in Highfield Drive and would have a detrimental impact on neighbours’ private space.
The committee was told the application was a resubmission of an earlier scheme which had been withdrawn because of concerns about the size of the proposed house.
It had now been reduced in size.
But Cllrs Woodyatt and Marks still considered it to be too big, and neighbours believed the new proposals had not been significantly changed.
