MISS Teen Warrington, Caitlin Holmes, 15, brightened up the children’s ward at Warrington Hospital when she dropped in for a visit – armed with goodies.
Following her success in last year’s Miss Junior Teen Great Britain contest, Caitlin has her sights set on becoming this year’s Miss Teen Galaxy England thanks to additional sponsorship from Warrington’s Golden Square Shopping Centre.
Finding time to be charitable is a key motive for the local beauty queen. Caitlin, from Woolston, who holds the hospital close to her heart after her sister spent several weeks there fighting meningitis, returned to the ward with a generous bag of treats donated by Golden Square retailers’
She spent an afternoon handing out goodies to poorly children and supplying the nurses with cookies.
One particularly happy customer was four-year-old Riley from Birchwood whose mother Jennifer McGonigle said: “Riley is a huge dinosaur fan so he was made up with his toys. He also hasn’t eaten for a day but a cookie did the trick – why didn’t I think of chocolate.”
Ward Sister, Carol Beasley, said: “We just want to say a big thank you to Caitlin for all the wonderful gifts. The children really appreciated them!”
Busy studying for her GCSE’s as well as preparing for her next pageant, pro-active Caitlin is also rehearsing for a qualifying European dance competition.
She said: “The staff on the children’s ward all do an amazing job so I was really happy to be able to give something back and thank them. It was lovely to spend the afternoon with all the nurses and the children and help put a smile on their faces!”
General manager at Golden Square, Ian Cox said: “It was great to be able to cheer up the children’s ward with some Golden Square goodies! We’re very pleased to supporting Caitlin in her charitable activities and in her quest to become Miss Teen Galaxy.”
Caitlin has also been busy fundraising for the Christie charity by organising a raffle with staff at her school and another with Warrington Borough Council’s careers for young people team.
The Miss Galaxy England competition takes place in March.
