THE WARRINGTON statue of Rugby League legend Brian Bevan has been celebrated in a recent sporting publication; Immortals of British Sport.
The book is a celebration of Britain’s sporting history through sculpture.
Britain, pioneer of many of the world’s most popular sports, is uniquely rich in sporting heroes – many of whom are immortalised in sculptures and memorials around the British Isles.
The book covers more than 20 sports from across the ages with Brian Bevan sitting alongside the likes of Sirs Matt Busby, Stanley Matthews and Steve Redgrave to name a few.
Brian played for Warrington for 16 years, signing for the club in 1945.
The winger went on to play a club record number of games with 620 appearances, scoring a record 740 tries which, along with 34 goals, totaled 2,288 points.
He was part of a Challenge Cup winning side on two occasions with the club as well as the winner of three Rugby League Championships.
Bevan is highly respected throughout the history of the game and Warrington club. He was honored as being one of the nine original all-time greats to be inducted into Rugby League’s Hall of Fame. Warrington Wolves also recognise him in the club’s Hall of Fame and with a statue taking pride of place at the entrance to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
