Putting health in the picture

A PHOTOGRAPHY challenge that aims to highlight ways people can improve their wellbeing is being run in Warrington.
The North West Year of Health and Wellbeing Partnership is asking local people to get involved in its “Life Through The Lens” photo challenge. The competition runs until September 30 and prizes include a holiday for four and a £500 phone.
It aims to highlight five actions that can improve wellbeing in everyday life and protect people against mental health problems – which one in four people will suffer at some stage.
These are connect (with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours), be active (enjoying a physical activity appropriate to fitness levels), take notice (be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling), keep learning (to build fun and confidence) and give (volunteer for fun and to create connections with people).
One of the campaign instigators Mike Farrar said: “In the current economic climate the simple things like keeping in touch with friends and family and staying active become really important to how we feel about ourselves. “
Organisers say incorporating the five steps into life gives immediate positive benefits and can add up to 7.5 years to life expectancy.
