THREE sixth formers from Warrington’s Penketh College have landed a once in a lifetime opportunity to coach football in the United States of America later this year.
Year 13 students Chris Bingham, Callum Anderson and Louis Dougherty are working towards an NVQ in Football Coaching with the prestigious David Campbell Soccer School, run by the former Northern Ireland international and 1986 World Cup star.
They were selected by the organisation to live and work in America for three months over the summer period.
Head of Sixth Form Amy Turner said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students not only to develop their coaching skills, but also to experience living with an American family and sharing their culture. I am immensely proud of them and am sure they will represent us well.”
When in America the lucky students will have the opportunity to work with some of Major League Soccer’s biggest clubs in Tampa, Cincinnati and Memphis.
David Campbell, whose soccer school has been running at Penketh for 12 months, said: “The NVQ programmes give students aged 16-19 the chance of training to become full time professional football coaches or the ability to access other associated jobs within the football industry.
“With career prospects around the world, the scheme includes formal introductions to coaching jobs during the course and I’m delighted Penketh College students are being given a unique chance to enter this exciting industry – a career generally only accessed by former professional footballers.”
Penketh College is the sixth form of Penketh High School.
