WORK is progressing well on renovating the Parish Hall at Appleton, thanks to a £50,000 grant from funding body WREN.

Walls have been re-plastered, new doors and surrounds have been replaced and new flooring and carpet laid both in the small hall, toilets and council office. New shelves have also been installed to house books for the library.

Also the disabled access ramp and toilet are being revamped.

Cllr Sharon Harris, Chairman of Appleton Parish Council, is “delighted with work so far and proud that the Parish Council has taken the initiative to make the hall a dementia friendly space making it usable for all in our community.”

She said the Council had received many favourable comments from users of the hall already. This now completes phase one and two of the project. Work is expected to be completed by September 2018.

Appleton Parish Hall is used by many community groups and clubs serving local people of all ages and interests. There is a Toddlers group on Friday mornings, a coffee morning run by Aim Christian Fellowship and a library on a Tuesday morning, several WI groups meet at the Parish Hall along with two flower clubs and a Keep Fit session on Thursday mornings.

WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Richard Smith, WREN’s grant manager for Warrington, said: “It’s always nice to see something we have funded start to take shape. We’re delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project and look forward to it benefitting community groups across Warrington.”

Appleton Parish Council is also providing funds for the renovation project and the Parish Council was also successful in being awarded £1,500 from the Community Initiative Fund from Warrington Borough Council.
