A man and a woman who targeted elderly and vulnerable victims during a string of burglaries across Warrington last summer have been jailed at Liverpool Crown Court.

Dean Hirst, 29, and Sonia Wilcocks, 33, both admitted a total of 17 counts of Burglary.

The charges related to 14 burglaries which had been committed across Warrington between June 10 and 4 August 4 last year. In some cases they committed the burglaries together, whilst in other they acted alone.

Hirst, of Hammond Street, St Helens, pleaded guilty to a total of 11 counts of burglary; while Wilcocks, of Strawberry Close, Birchwood, confessed to six burglaries.

The pair appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday 27 March 2017 where Hirst was sentenced to four years 10 months in prison while Wilcocks was handed a two year sentence.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Stacey Nolan said: “This was a lengthy and complex investigation into a large number of burglaries at homes across Warrington during the summer of 2016.

“A number of the victims in this case were elderly and targeted purely based on their vulnerability. I don’t believe the defendants realise the devastating impact that their offending has had, but I hope that the victims are able to receive some comfort by the sentences that have been handed to Hirst and Wilcocks.

“Burglary is a despicable crime and we are committed to doing all that we can to bring offenders to justice.”

  1. Are the victims seriously expected to ‘receive some comfort’ by the sentences that have been handed down?
He got just over 5 months per burglary, she got 4 months per burglary. I would think the victims would be more insulted than comforted!
