THE inquest into the tragic deaths of the four members of Warrington indie band Viola Beach and their manager in Sweden in February is opening at the Town Hall today.

Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg will hold a joint inquest into the deaths of Kris Leonard, 20, River Reeves, 19, Jack Dakin, 19 and Tomas Lowe, 27 and their manager Craig Tarry.

They died after their Nissan Qashqai crashed through a bridge barrier and dropped more than 80ft into a canal below at Stockholm.

The band had been in Sweden performing at a music festival in Norrköping and it is understood they were on their way back to the airport when the crash occurred.

The inquest was opened in March when evidence of identification was given, but no causes of death were revealed.

Warrington was rocked by the tragic deaths of the up-and-coming band.

Since then, their posthumous debut album has been released and went to the top of the official album chart.

A memorial concert has taken place at the Parr Hall and a fund set up to establish a permanent memorial to the group in their home town.

Top British band Coldplay played a tribute to them at the Glastonbury Festival.

And a scholarship has been established at Priestley College, where the four members of the band were all students.

Talented young pianist Yi Chen Hock was the first student to receive an award under the scholarship
