Library campaigners “cautiously optimistic”

LIBRARY campaigners at Lymm are “cautiously optimistic” over the future of the village library following the release of proposals to be put to Warrington Borough Council’s executive board on February 13.
They are now planning to set up a “Friends of Lymm Library” group – with the inaugural meeting to be held at the Village Hall annex in Pepper Street on Monday, February 27.
Anyone interested in getting involved or learning more is invited to attend the meeting which starts at 7.30pm.
Amended proposals for Lymm Library have been put forward by library operators LiveWire for consideration by the borough council.
They involve continued discussions to develop a mixed economy within the library building in partnership with local organisations and the parish council.
A petition signed by 4,248 people has been raised in support of keeping Lymm Library open.
Parish councillor and campaigner Graham Gowland said: “The news that the library could not only be saved, but with extended opening hours, is fantastic. We are cautious over the possible partners, but are hopeful they could work well alongside the library provision”.
The aim is for the new “Friends” group to work with the library to help organise events and promote the library locally.
