From flexible working to free flu jabs, carers are entitled to vital protections and support – find out what’s available in Warrington, including events, support and a special Carers Rights Day event.

Carers play a vital role in our communities, and it’s important they know the rights and support available to them.
Carers Rights Day is tomorrow, Thursday 20 November and is organised by national charity Carers UK, aims to raise awareness of carers’ rights and ensure they have access to the information, advice and support they need in their caring role.

Rights that carers are entitled to include:

  • The right to request flexible working
  • The right to be added as a carer on their patient record with their GP practice
  • The right to request free vaccinations, such as the flu jab, which is especially timely as we head into the colder weather
  • The right to a carers assessment if someone they care for has needs that fall under the Care Act
  • The right to protections under the Equality Act 2010 against direct discrimination or harassment because of their caring role or responsibilities

If you are caring for someone in Warrington, help and support is available. Find out more on the carers support page on Warrington Carers Hub and Living Well Warrington, or drop into the Living Well Hub in the town centre.
Warrington Carers Hub also provides dedicated support for young carers who may be juggling caring responsibilities alongside school, friendships, and everyday life. The Hub works closely with young carers and their families to offer tailored support, including help with education and access to fun activities that give young carers a chance to relax and enjoy time for themselves.

Carers Rights Day event
Tomorrow at the Centre for Independent Living from 10.30am to 3pm, there will be a drop-in event for Carer Rights Day. This welcoming event offers a chance to enjoy coffee and cake while connecting with friendly representatives from the council, Warrington Carers Hub, Warrington Disability Partnership, Healthwatch and Age UK.
Whether you’re a carer, living with a disability, or simply curious, you’ll find helpful information, answers to your questions, and a supportive atmosphere.
The event is designed to empower attendees by raising awareness of their rights and ensuring they feel informed and valued. It’s a relaxed and inclusive space to learn more, meet others, and feel part of a caring community. Everyone is welcome – just drop in and say hello!

There’s also a range of events which take place at Warrington Carers Hub to support carers throughout the year, including coffee mornings, crazy golf, pottery painting and brunch and chat sessions.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and adult social care said: “Carers play a vital role in our communities, often putting others’ needs before their own. It’s so important they know their rights and feel supported. I encourage anyone who is caring for someone to reach out and explore the help available in Warrington.”
