DESPITE the Government shutting down all non-elite football until Wednesday 2nd December the last few days have been busy for Warrington Rylands 1906 who went top of the league after last night’s 3-0 victory at Congleton Town.
Following their first-round victory over Padiham on Saturday the Blues were handed an away game in the second round of the Buildbase FA Vase with Mondays draw pairing them with Jarrow FC.
The date for the second round, which was scheduled to be played during the upcoming National Lockdown, is to be confirmed.
The club also announced the signings of Joe Coveney and Lee Knight on Monday. Knight, an exciting player who can play across the front line played 1874 for Northwich last season whilst Coveney is a former Nottingham Forest midfielder signed from Matlock Town.
The pair, along with other recent signings Elliot Nevitt (City of Liverpool) and Jack Tinning (1874 Northwich) increase the strength depth of the Rylands squad which has been hit hard by injuries in recent weeks.
Both Nevitt and Tinning played prominent roles in Warrington Rylands last game before Lockdown when they visited Congleton Town on Tuesday where their 3-0 victory ensured they entered the break on top of the NWCFL Premier Division table.
In the opening exchanges Congleton went close to opening the scoring several times, whilst Tinning had a number of shots well saved by the home sides goalkeeper and Nevitt struck an upright with a powerful shot.
Rylands took the lead in the 27th minute when Kane Drummond round the keeper to slip the ball past a covering defender. Eleven minutes last a Drummond cross set up Nevitt to double Rylands advantage while Charlie Doyle completed the scoring in the 68th minute.
After the game manager Dave McNabb tweeted “Excellent performance tonight from the lads. Congleton started the game really well but once we got going we completely controlled the rest of the game. Some unreal footy played, some great goals scored and a solid defensive performance”.
