SPECTACULAR firework displays greeted 2020 in various parts of Warrington
While the vast majority of people saw in the New Year responsibly and in a spirit of good will, there were also a troublesome minority who kept police busy in the early hours, – leading to fireworks of a different kind.
At 1.15am officers dealt with what they described as a free-for-all in the town centre involving numerous men fighting.
One man had his head stamped on.
Eventually four men were arrested.
At 1.45 a man was arrested in the Burtonwood area for an alleged domestic assault on his female partner and spent the night in the cells.
Two men were arrested at 3.10am after being found fighting on Academy Way. They were accused of using threatening behavbiour.
Just after 4.30am , a woman driver was stopped in the Latchford area after she was involved in a collision and was found to have consumed over the limit.
Just before 5am officers responded to reports of a fight between numerous men on Wilson Patten Street. One youth was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Shortly after 5am a man was arrested at Grappenhall following reports of a domestic assault and being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle.
This morning police issued a warning to people who had been celebrating last night to be aware that they could still be over the drink-driving limit
