Time to find the true meaning of Christmas

AS we all prepare for the festive season it gave me no pleasure to report on a story from Warrington Foodbank involving a young girl and her two siblings going without food for three days!

What a sad world we live in! Anyone with any power or influence must work together to put an end to this kind of situation.

Demand at Warrington Foodbank has increased by 48 per cent in just two years and the facility has had to recently expand into a second unit, supported by Warrington Borough Council.

While there will always be some people in need of support surely something can be done to resolve the need for Foodbanks?

A lot of blame is pointed at the government – but we all have a shared responsibility to help those in need, whether by looking after our family, keeping an eye on neighbours or working proactively in local and national government.

Too much time is wasted on apportioning blame and finger pointing and attempting to win political points.

It was indeed refreshing to see our town’s two new MPs Andy Carter (Conservative) and Charlotte Nichols (Labour) smiling together on a “selfie” during their induction at the House of Commons earlier this week.

It is important that our town’s MPs work together as much as possible for the benefit of our whole town. Hopefully this is the start of new beginnings and I will certainly be doing my best to encourage Andy and Charlotte to work together to tackle the Foodbank issue.

No one in this modern world of over indulgence should go hungry, let alone a child going without food for three days.

As we enter a period of reflection let us all remember the true meaning of Christmas.

This will be our last newsletter of the year so I would like to take this opportunity of wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and lets all do our bit for mankind and hope we can help bring an end, or certainly a reduction in the need Foodbanks in the New Year.
