Get involved in the “Great North West Read”

1

WARRINGTON’S libraries are taking part in a unique event aimed at uniting readers across the North West to get reading, and talking about, a single book.
LiveWire’s community librarians have been working with library partnership organisation Time to Read to bring The Great North West Read (GNWR) project to Warrington – one of 22 library authorities taking part in the event.
Copies of the chosen book, “The Craftsman” by Sharon Bolton, have been delibered and will soon by available to borrow from the town’s libraries.
Set in Lancashire, The Craftsman starts in 1999 with the funeral of a convicted murderer, and then flashes back to the very different world of when the murders happened in 1969. It covers themes including witch-craft, the police and sexism, and has a strong female lead while still being accessible to non-readers of thrillers as well as both genders.
Sharon Bolton will be talking about The Craftsman, and the GNWR, at a special event at Warrington Library on Thursday November 22, where she will be in conversation with popular mystery author Cath Staincliffe (Blue Murder, Scott and Bailey).
The talk is from 7.00pm to 8.00pm and tickets, costing £3, are available at all LiveWire libraries.
Sharon Bolton said: “Libraries in the North West played a huge part in my love of stories as I was growing up, and I couldn’t be more pleased that The Craftsman has been selected as the first Great North West Read.”
Wendy Molyneux, LiveWire’s strategic library manager, said: “This is too good to miss – 22 library authorities promoting one book!  The Craftsman has been selected as the Great North West Read and the book everyone should read this autumn.  Described as chilling, eerie and intense we can’t wait to welcome the author, Sharon Bolton, to Warrington Library for what we know will be an amazing evening.”
