POLICE are urging business owners to remain vigilant following reports of attempted distraction burglaries in Warrington.
At around 1.55pm on Tuesday July 24 two men entered business premises on Tarporley Road in Stretton.
They distracted a member of staff with a piece of paper and then tried to steal a wallet.
The employee saw the offender attempt to steal the wallet. She stopped him from doing so and then told them to leave the premises.
The offenders left in the direction of The Park Royal hotel and police received reports of men fitting their descriptions and carrying a piece of paper entering four other businesses premises – on Knutsford Road, Horsemarket Street, Walton Road and London Road – later that same day.
On each occasion the men were asked to leave the premises and nothing was stolen.
The men are described as slim, tall and of Eastern European origin. They are estimated to be in their 20s and were both wearing baseball caps.
One of the men had a leather jacket on and the other was wearing a camouflage jacket.
Enquiries into the incidents are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who recognises the descriptions of the men and thinks they may know who they are to get in touch.
Sergeant Mark Spaven said: “We had a number of reports of attempted distraction burglaries involving two men on Tuesday July 24..
“Thankfully nothing was stolen thanks to the vigilance of the businesses involved.
“We urge businesses to remain vigilant and appeal to anyone who thinks they may know who the men are or have any other information that may assist our ongoing investigation to come forward.”
