WARRINGTON Islamic Association have provided a major boost to local charity helping Syrian refugees preparing to face Winter in Greece.

Four van loads of aid have been delivered to “Refugees – aid from the Northwest of England” started by local businesswoman Nora Carlin, who runs lifestyle management firm Arley’s Angels at Appleton Thorn.

Nora started the charity after seeing photographs of tragic Aylan Kurdi, the little Syrian boy found drowned on a Turkish beach.

The substantial donation of aid worth around £8k, which also included a cheque for £3k, has been delivered to the charity’s temporary depot in Lostock Gralam.

A delighted Nora said:” I would like to thank the Warrington Islamic Association for their fantastic support and genersoity.

“They have been fund raising and collecting donations of practical aid over the last few weeks. They have spent thousands of pounds on new clothing, footwear and food for the refugees.

“They have also presented me with a substantial cheque to assist with transport costs and other items needed for the refugees.

“We are pleased and humbled by their generosity and community spirit to do so much to help others in need. We have never received so much from one group before.

“Our next container will be sent later this month with another one a few weeks later, both to Greece where there are 57000 refugees facing winter.”

Nora added : “What seems to have started as a small collection has now grown to approx £8k of aid arriving in 4 vans! Not an insubstantial and a wonderful contribution from the community.”
