Recycling the recycling bins!

3

TENS of thousands of recycling bins are themselves being recycled as Warrington Borough Council steps up its expanded kerbside collection operation.
The smaller, blue bins used for waste paper are being collected throughout this month and then “chipped” and sent to Holland, Belgium and Germany to be made into new recycling bins on the Continent.
Coun Alan Litton, the borough council executive member for environment services visited the council’s School Brow depot to see the bins being chipped yesterday.
He said: “The council is constantly looking into ways we can reduce the amount we all send to landfill – this new service is just one way we can help residents boost their recycling rate and recycling the old bins was the right thing for us to do.”
The old blue bins were collected monthly. But the new, larger blue bins will be collected fortnightly and will help people recycle more including tin cans, cardboard, glass, paper and plastic bottles.
Leaflets have been distributed across the borough and details are also available at www.recycleforwarrington.co.uk or call Contact Warrington on 443322.
