Sleeping family threatened by fire

FIRE crews tackled a blaze early today which threatened a family sleeping in their home.
The blaze was started by vandals in an alleyway at the rear of Fox Street, Bewsey at around 3am – and followed an earlier fire further down the alley.
Both involved wheelie bins pushed up against properties.
The first fire involved only the bin. But the second spread to a timber gate and then up a plastic drainpipe on the house.
Firefighters could not rouse the family sleeping inside but managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread inside the house.
A Fire Service spokesman said: “We repeatedly urge people not to leave wheelie bins in positions which make their homes or other property vulnerable overnight.
“The hooligans and vandals operate right into the early hours and are a menace.”
