A campaign to be supported

THERE are times when a whole community should get behind a campaign simply because it will benefit the whole community.
Grappenhall Sports Club will be launching a fund-raising campaign on August 24 which is just such a campaign.
The task is formidable: to raise the £80,000 needed to buy the soccer pitches they currently lease in Stockton Lane, Grappenhall which are “home” to 16 teams involving up to 300 players.
They have until next March to find the money and failure could result in government agency English Partnerships – who own the land – selling to someone else. And we can guess what that would mean.
So this is definitely a campaign for the community to support – and by that we mean the whole Warrington community rather than just Grappenhall. This club clearly serves a very wide area.
The campaign starts with a family fun day, hog roast and five-a-side competition on Sunday, August 24. But a lot more fundraising will be necessary if the money is to be raised and anyone who wants to help, or has fund-raising ideas, should contact Brian Robinson on 07788 591172.
