SHADOW Minister for Disabled People Mark Harper paid a visit to Warrington in the run-up to Disability Awareness Day.
Accompanied by David Mowat, Tory Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South, he attended the Aiming High prize giving ceremony for children from local special schools at Birchwood and then spent time with trustees of locally-based charity Families United.
Then he visited Walton Hall Gardens to meet founder Dave Thompson and his team preparing for Disability Awareness Day and learn how their hard work made the event an annual success.
Afterwards, Mr Harper said: “Warrington Disability Day is a world class event and a great example of the way that Government needs to utilise the charity sector to do more in other parts of the country.
“Talking to Dave Thompson and his team has been both inspirational and educational for me and there are a many lessons to be learned from the way that Dave and his team have built this event into something really special.”
Mr Mowat added: “Mark has offered to come back to Disability Day when he is the Minister……I will hold him to it!”
