New record set in triathlon

ALAN Copland, of the “One Life Racing” club set a new course record at the Newton-le-Willows Triathlon – despite a number of torrential downpours which made the course very wet in places.
He completed the 400m swim, 13.5 mile bike ride and 3.5 mile run in just one hour six minutes and 57 seconds – despite a number of torrential downpours which made the course very wet in places.
The first female was local Winwick triathlete, Kate Dwyer, who finished in 1 hour 28 minutes and 26 seconds.
The event was full, with 200 competitors taking part in this exciting shorter distance event. The swim took place in Selwyn Jones Sports Centre, and the bike and run courses went through local Newton-le-Willows countryside and parks. The multi-lap routes created many opportunities for faster athletes to overtake.
The Newton-le-Willows Triathlon is part of a series of triathlons in the North West. For more details, and full results visit www.XtraMileEvents.com
