Wolves bid sad farewell to Mother of the Wolf Pack

WARRINGTON Wolves have bid a sad farewell to Evelyn McEvoy, founder and “Mother” of the original junior WolfPack section for the club, which she helped launch with her husband Brian and commercial manager Paul Cullen.
Organising coach trips and parties for  thousands of younger fans over the years, many will remember her from these fantastic occasions.
She spent many years working hard behind the scenes for the club in numerous positions, after retiring as a nurse at the local St Rocco’s Hospice, as well the local NHS Hospital.
Evelyn, or “Ev” to the many friends she had, worked on the club’s market stall and club shop at Wilderspool over a number of years, always with a cheeky comment and happy word for everyone.
She even had a stint as a cheerleader in the early days of Super League!
Former player and coach Paul Cullen who worked with Evelyn and Brian in setting up the WolfPack, said: “The McEvoys, both Evelyn and her husband Brian, were as much involved in the evolution of Warrington Wolves as Simon Moran, Lee Briers, Adrian Morley and Tony Smith.”
“Their work to start the WolfPack changed the demographic and fan base and thus the culture of our club. As parents and grandparents they recognised a massive void in making the Wire and the Wolves into a family orientated organisation.”
“The WolfPack, as it was, started with a target of 1000 kids paying as little as 5 quid a year and with the hard work of Evelyn and Brian, and all those others involved in starting such a magnificent entity at our club, has provided generations of supporters who will support this club for the rest of their lives. Warrington owes them a great debt. They helped me as a player. They inspired me as a coach. And they made me a better person.”
All at the club send their condolences to the family and remember her fondly and their thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
