CARERS from Warrington had an unexpected meeting with Princess Anne – while on a day trip to Blackpool.
The 11 carers were on a specially arranged excursion as part of National Carers’ Week.
The Princess Royal met the group of 11 carers in Blackpool while on a day break from the daily pressures of caring for others.
Executive officer at The Princess Royal Trust Warrington Carers’ Centre, Jenny Readman said: “Everyone was certainly surprised to meet the Princess. It topped off a great week for all of them.
“It is so important that at least once a year we give the carers a chance to relax and spend some time on themselves.”
Carers’ week also marked the 10 year anniversary of the Warrington Centre, which organised a series of events to mark the occasion.
One of the events was a party for young carers, which was attended by Tracy Dawson, widow of famous comedian Les, and Mo Moreland of dance troupe the Roly Polys.
Mrs Readman added: “We had a great week and we are happy to be celebrating 10 years of helping carers in Warrington.
“Carers and young carers are often under a lot of strain and the Carers’ Centre is here to help them cope and give respite from the demands placed upon them.”
