A CONVENIENCE store was forced to breaking point as a result of repeated thefts by a member of staff.
Over a period of five months, a manageress at the family-run Spar Shop at Callands, stole more than £7,500, Warrington Crown Court was told.
Julie Gleave, 38, from Holford Avenue in Bewsey, Warrington pleaded guilty to stealing a total of £7,531.
She was jailed for six months and ordered to repay the money.
The court was told Gleave had already saved £700 towards repaying the debt.
Fellow members of staff became suspicious when they noticed the takings and records did not match.
The owners of the store, Tim and Pauline Mullins, challenged Gleave about the missing cash. She at first denied all knowledge of the offence – but later confessed.
Mr and Mrs Mullins were forced to cut the wages of other members of staff and reduce their hours during the period of the offences because the business was losing so much money, the court was told.
